چکیده

A new approach to synthesis of cross-linked colloidosomes (microcapsules with a shell from colloidal particles) was developed on the basis of a peroxidized Pickering emulsion (an emulsion stabilized exclusively by peroxidized colloidal particles). Peroxidized latex particles were employed to ensure formation of Pickering emulsion. Free radical polymerization was used to convert droplets of a peroxidized Pickering emulsion into colloidosomes (soft template technique). The peroxidized latex particles were synthesized with the use of amphiphilic polyperoxide copolymer poly[N-(t-butylperoxymethyl) acrylamide]-co-maleic anhydride (PMMA)applied as both initiator and surfactant (inisurf) in the emulsion polymerization process. The polymerization results in latexes with a controllable amount of peroxide and carboxyl groups (both derived from PM-MA macromolecules) at the particle surface. It was demonstrated that the structure of the synthesized (using peroxidized latex particles) colloidosomes depends on the amount of functional groups and pH during the synthesis. Thus, the size and morphology of colloidosomes can be controlled by latex particle surface properties.

Structure of colloidosomes with tunable particle density: simulation versus experiment.

Colloidosomes are created in the laboratory from a Pickering emulsion of water droplets in oil. The colloidosomes have approximately the same diameter and by choosing (hairy) particles of different diameters it is possible to control the particle density on the droplets. The experiment is performed at room temperature. The radial distribution function of the assembly of (primary) particles on t...

Preparation of uniform particle-stabilized emulsions using SPG membrane emulsification.

Various aspects of particle-stabilized emulsions (or so-called Pickering emulsions) have been extensively investigated during the last two decades, but the preparation of uniform Pickering emulsion droplets via a simple and scalable method has been sparingly realized. We report the preparation of uniform Pickering emulsions by Shirasu porous glass (SPG) membrane emulsification. The size of the ...

Nonspherical colloidosomes with multiple compartments from double emulsions.

Colloidosomes are hollow capsules whose walls are composed of densely packed colloidal particles. Colloidosomes are typically prepared by creating particle-covered water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion droplets. These particle shells in the oil phase are subsequently transferred into an aqueous phase to generate the colloidosomes. We recently reported a new approach to fabricate monodisperse colloidosome...

Crude Oil Interfacial Tension Reduction and Reservoir Wettability Alteration with Graphite or Activated Carbon/Silica Nanohybrid Pickering Emulsions

In this research, two carbon structures silica nanohybrids Pickering emulsions were prepared. Graphite and activated carbon were carbon allotropes with different morphologies of laminar and spherical, respectively. The effect of carbon morphology investigated on the related silica nanohybrids Pickeringemulsions for C-EOR. Therefore, nanohybrids were prepared with graphite and activated carbon t...

Colloidal spheres confined by liquid droplets: geometry, physics, and physical chemistry

I discuss how colloidal particles organize when they are confined by emulsion droplets. In these systems, the interplay between surface tension and interparticle repulsion drives the formation of complex, non-crystalline 3D arrangements. These can be classified into three groups: colloidosomes, or Pickering emulsions, structures that form when particles are bound to the interface of a spherical...
